A Fix Your Face Interview With Joman

I’ve seen Joman perform a few times now, most recently at Skylab 2011, and was so excited to hear he was playing the Global Dance Arena @ NYE DECADENCE alongside some of the most monstrous bass artists of the entire EDM scene, i nearly pee’d my pants! AND!! He was nice enough to give all you FIX YOUR FACE RADIO heads an exclusive interview :)

Tell us about your first inspirations to be involved in the EDM scene?
JOMAN: I’ve always loved electronic music, since as long as I can remember. I grew up listening to Moby, Fatboy Slim, The Chemical Brothers, Aphex Twin, stuff like that. But around the time I was 13, my cousin gave me a copy of Fruityloops 3 and BT’s “Movement In Still Life.” The album had a significant impact on me and once I had FL, I just started playing around with it. What started as a curious hobby ended up being something I did every single day, going on 11 years. This was long before I ever really knew anything about the club scene but once I started to discover it a few years ago, the natural progression was to dive head first into it and share my music with everyone I could.

With all the amazing advancements in music technology, especially in electronic music, what are your ‘weapons on choice’?
JOMAN: I still use FL Studio pretty regularly, as the program has improved dramatically with practically every update. Version 10 is outstanding. I also use Reason, Record, Logic, Melodyne for vocals, Wavelab and occasionally Ableton. As far as plug-ins go, I’m a big fan of the Thor synth in Reason because of the complex routing options it allows… also, Massive for pretty much the same reasons, a free plug-in called Peach for 8-bit sounds, Z3ta for some of my leads… I’ve used the Axxess Virus for a few of my bass lines and just got my hands on Stutter Edit, which is insanely powerful. The list goes on and on.

It has to be awesome to collab with so many amazing artists, got any favorites?
JOMAN: Working with Adam K, J Scott G and Jontron has been a lot of fun. Adam is legendary when it comes to Progressive House and J Scott G has an ear for a lot of different genres. Writing Electro House with him has been a blast. We’ve got a lot of stuff in the works that I’m excited to share. And Jontron and I are pretty good friends, so we always have fun getting together in the studio and just seeing what happens.

The talent at Skylab this year was through the roof, as an EDM fan, who you think threw it down the hardest?
JOMAN: Avicii and Dash Berlin, without question.

When and where can we get some more JOMAN in our lives???
