Bio: I was born, then it went downhill from there. Well, actually, it took 56 years to get here so it has been a process and a ride! Started life in San Diego, California and grew up in Florida and Alabama, moving to Colorado in 1972 when I was 18. There was music all around in my youth; my father worked for a department store repairing electronics and brought home numerous record albums from a variety of genres and it was all part of the mix for me; Broadway show tunes, deep hillbilly bluegrass, stone country, roots rock, folk records, Mexican influenced pop, Cuban music, jazz and gospel were spun in the house regularly. Radio was our link to the world at large and woke us up in the morning. I can still hear Chet Atkins' 'Yakety yak' in my mind and Floyd Cramer's 'Last Date', two of the tunes that opened the early morning shows on WFLA from Tampa. When I was 8, I traded a Beatles album my cousin had left at the house for and old Kay guitar with impossibly high action and started to figure out how to play it. I played trombone in junior high and high school, then rekindled the relationship with the guitar, moving on to play in bands in western Colorado, touring regionally and locally. Fatherhood, a new gig for me at 27, found me sticking closer to home so I could raise and enjoy my kids, still playing and writing songs and performing at every opportunity. I started attending CMU in 2010 and took advantage of the chance to be a DJ for KMSA 91.3 FM. I enjoy bringing my experience and perspective to my job and love mixing it up for listeners. I look forward to getting more of my collection digitized to bring to the show in the future!
